A fan is used to move air. That sounds like a simple application but there is more to it than meets the eye. There are different types of fans. For example, an axial fan is a motor with a fan blade mounted on the shaft, on a motor mount in a round tube. The fan can often be incorporated directly into the pipework. The air is sucked in over the motor. We often see these kinds of fans on board ships.

With radial fans, the electric motor is installed outside the air stream. These fans are often incorporated into air treatment units where they provide fresh air to buildings. All types of fans are powered by electric motors.

Our electric motors for fans are suitable for a wide range of applications

In large extraction systems, such as those of Modesta in Putten, we would find other types of fans. And the same applies to a carpentry factory, where the processing of the wood results in many wood shavings. These are extracted at the machine and collected in a container via a system of pipes. The air is purified using a dust filter. In bread ovens, fans ensure a good distribution of hot air. Fans are also used to cool the loaves of bread.

A more ‘airy’ application of a fan can be found at Indoor Skydive in Roosendaal. Here, no less than 12 fans are set up in a circle, with a total installed power of 2400kW. The fans provide an airspeed of 180kmh which makes it possible to ‘fly’.

Fans are also used for drying all kinds of products. These can be flower bulbs or onions, but also plastic crates that are used at the flower auction. Crates that must be washed before they can be reused. At the end of the washing station there is a large fan to blow the crates dry. All these fans are powered by electric motors.
